Last week I took a drive to one of my favorite used bookstores. There's something about being surrounded by all those old books that always puts me in a good mood. The textures and smells of books both old and new; the yellowed pages covered with the words, thoughts and feelings of author's from various time periods and places just entrances me. The sound the creaky, wooden floor boards make as I walk across them, running my fingers along the spines of so many wonderful books. I love to sit on the floor and open a few books to random pages and read a line or two. It is a feast for my senses...
I love that Ace is developing a love for it as well. He used to whine whenever we walked through the doors but now he goes straight to the travel section and looks at the pictures of all the different places and landmarks. I'm so happy that he's learning how to utilize a book to transport him to wherever he wants to go...
This time he looked at photographs of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Musee D'orsay. Then all day he kept asking when we could go to France. I told him to ask his father when we got home because I'd like to know the answer to that question as well. ;)There are no trips to Europe in our foreseeable future, so for now we'll continue to enjoy the grand ole' sites of the States...and her greatest writers...and for now, we'll have to see the rest of the world from inside of a book.
A precious, mouldering pleasure 't is,
to meet an antique book,
In just the dress his century wore;
A privilege I think...

I love book stores, I'm like a kid in a candy store!
I love to browse book stores! I could get lost for hours.
YAY for used bookstores! My mom always complains whenever I "waste time" in one, but honestly, you never know what treasures you'll find if you just take the time to look. :]
It's true isn't it? I could spend forever in a bookstore and when I finally find that one book that's begging to come home with me, I'm elated!!
Glad to know you all treasure a good book as well!
Popping in from MBC!
Now following you...
I love visiting my smaller local book stores whether it be new or used books vs. Barnes & Noble or Boarder's. I usually find what I'm looking for and if not, they order it for me.
Sylvia,
I just discovered your site and was enchanted by the photo of you reaching up to caress old books...I have one of me doing the same thing on my blog! I live in Heidelberg, Germany, and though I can't read all the lovely German texts in those books, I must agree that going to the old "Antiquariat" here makes me feel full to bursting...it is a feast for the senses, indeed.
